I've learned so much through your writings these last years, Mark. I'm sorry I've never taken the time to comment until now. I wish you the Lord's best as you journey on and through this next phase. You're starting to draw and paint? Wow--Good for you! And, as you've said to us so many times--Grace and peace, to you.

Many, like myself, will greatly miss the solid, regular input into our thinking, in a Christian way, about our world. May the Lord prosper your journey, wherever it may lead. And, may you find other ways to serve the Body with your gifts.

I want to thank you, thank you, thank you for years of thoughtful provocative commentary and insight. You have pointed wonderfully to additional resources that I have enjoyed exploring. The intellectual Christian life is indeed a rich one and you have allowed us to feast.

Sad for us, glad for you. Sounds right. Sydney Smith, an English Romantic, once complained of his garrulous friends: "Short views, for God's sake, short views." I've been enriched by your views for years. Yet I don't doubt that a sabbatical, a speech-fast, will make the views that result even better. God bless the break, but don't make it permanent.

Mark, My prayer for you as you set forth on this most noble and prudent time of true self awareness and deeper understanding of the beauty of lack-of-self - I ask for joyous, loving union with Him - and that His words are clear and life giving and self depleting as they must be. I ask that a dark night of the soul revelation brings New Life and New Joy and New Contentment in all that is. Most of all - I wish you deep peace and deeper grace than ever. Thanks for sharing your journey to Catholicism. It’s comforting to me as I have journeyed back after spending my adult years in the evangelical church returning ‘home’. Challenging for friends to fully appreciate the meaning of this shift. You’ve done an excellent job articulating this shift for me and others. Blessings.

I will miss Peripheral Vision in my Inbox most Fridays Mark. Thank you for sharing your life with us, the good, the bad and the ugly. My spirituality has been shaped by what I consider to be your deeply grounded Biblical perspectives. If your sabbatical includes travel, our guest room is always available for you in Cape Town.

Your words have always made me stop and think things through from a different angle. I will miss them. However, the good and the beautiful, the people near and dear to you, painting and drawing, all call loudly. Well done listening, Mark. May God bless you and Barb in this season.
